Looking Back at ACC’s 2015 and Looking Forward to a Great 2016!

Last year on New Year’s Day is where the whole idea to start this blog started.  Its been a pretty great ride and I wanted to share with all of you some of the highlights of the year.  Since I started A Capitol Contessa on May 4, 2015 I have posted 101 times, that have been viewed by 2,200 people over 6,200 times!  In the new year I am going to move from posting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Everyone warned me when I started that 3 days a week was going to be too much – honestly I really like how much energy it gives my cooking and how it forces me to think of new posts.  Trust me I haven’t run out of those!!  However, it did occur to me after talking to some readers that it’s hard to keep up with all the recipes and ideas.  I think twice a week will make it easier to incorporate ACC meals into your repertoire and it will give me more time to create stronger posts.  Reader feedback is so super helpful which is why I am glad I have gone global with my followers.

When I started posting I saw certain countries were reading all the time but they made sense because I had dear friends and family there (shout out to my top international readers – Tia in Venezuela, Beverly in Canada and Vernon in the UK!).  However, over time more and more countries were logging on (see the fancy map I made all by myself??).  I now can claim readers in 46 countries including South Korea, Australia, Barbados, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Peru, and Bangladesh!  Totally incredible and more than I ever thought when I first came up with this idea.  One of my favorite things is hearing from people who have actually made my recipes, especially friends who live far away – it makes me feel so much closer to them.  I have even inspired some merch – my friend Erica had a custom cutting board made for me and my aunt Janice had A Capitol Contessa apron made for me that I wear every day.

I have loved being able to highlight some of my favorite brands, products and stores – I don’t take anything from these folks so you can trust that these are just my favorite things I want to share with you.  It’s been terrific to drive some traffic to the DC local food scene and I hope to keep it up in the coming year.  If you have any favorite spots let me know so I can check them out.  The strength in this blog is the people who read it and connect with me – don’t be shy about letting me know if a recipe didn’t quite work for you or if you would like to see more or less of something.  In the hopes to grow my readership and make it easier for you all to connect with me I have finally made the jump onto Twitter!  You can follow me on @capitolcontessa – I sent my inaugural tweet today.  Patrick and I will be spending our New Year’s Day with brunch at Le Diplomate, just about the best way to start off the year.  I am looking forward to great food, friends and Fiesta Fridays in the new year – happy 2016!!!

    Hey Alex,
Amazing all the people you have touched. I have a file full of your recipes. And I intend to get to it in 2016! Continue your good work. I love being in touch this way. I will have a drink to you tonight!
What an inspiration. You are amazing.

    Dear Alex,
Honored to be mentioned as one of your top international readers! I love all your posts and have even tried some of your recipes. Of course, as you know, not having all the right ingredients makes for different results… (some acceptable and others inexplicably good).
